EQUINOX ride - MAAP LaB Amsterdam
“The place was buzzing with cyclists—some pros, others enthusiasts like us”
On September the 22nd we did a 300km bike ride across the Netherlands departing from the MAAP LaB Amsterdam, and it was an experience that tested not just my legs but my mindset, especially after Badlands. We set off early, the weather in our favor, with clear skies and cool winds. After about 85km, we stopped at Proloog for a much-needed coffee and cake break. The place was buzzing with cyclists—some pros, others enthusiasts like us—taking advantage of the perfect conditions. It was great to share the road with so many like-minded people on a stunning day!
As we hit the road again, things didn’t go as smoothly for everyone. Around Rotterdam, a few participants dropped out due to mechanical problems. But those of us who continued pressed on, knowing that our next stop was a Burger King, which took longer to arrive than expected. Refuelling on burgers, fries and milkshakes was an unconventional choice, but exactly what we needed to tackle the remaining 100km.
The dunes came into view, and while our legs were tired, we kept the mood light with the phrase of the day: "Life is good." We repeated it to each other when the ride started to feel endless, using it as a mantra to push through the fatigue. What a way to wriggle our minds!
What struck me the most during this ride was how your energy and motivation can fluctuate. At times, we felt unbeatable; other moments, we wondered if we’d make it to the end. It’s during these long rides that you realise how much of the battle is mental. The fight is often against yourself, but with the right mindset, company and snackitos you can keep going, one pedal stroke at a time.
In the end, it wasn’t just about completing 300km, but about discovering how resilient you can be when the ride feels like it’ll never end. Life is good—especially when you’re on a bike! And sharing the journey with others 🙂
